I'm a self-taught artist living in Edinburgh. I have always loved painting and drawing and have had more time recently to indulge my creative side!
I paint mostly flowers from macro photos, but sometimes create still life and experiment with landscapes. My work is quite graphic and stylized, showing the influence of Japanese/East Asian art and botanical paintings.
My style differs from that of conventional watercolourists as pencil outlines feature strongly in my work. This is because I like the details of my subjects to show clearly, usually through a bright wash of watercolour to gain a highly original glowing, transparent effect. I'm also fond of the effect of using a dark background to make my subjects stand out.
Recently I have created limited edition prints of my work and mounted them on small wood panels, which offers a more affordable way of purchasing my artwork, and make an ideal gift for any occasion.
Lately I have also taken my first venture into animal portraiture with 'Smudge', below. Following this, I am happy to undertake further pet portrait commissions.
Thanks for looking at my website, and I hope you see something you like!
